Flow equations for the Hénon–Heiles Hamiltonian

چکیده
The Hénon–Heiles Hamiltonian was introduced in 1964 [M. Hénon, C. Heiles, Astron. J. 69 (1964) 73] as a mathematical model to describe the chaotic motion of stars in a galaxy. By canonically transforming the classical Hamiltonian to a Birkhoff– Gustavson normal form, Delos and Swimm obtained a discrete quantum mechanical energy spectrum. The aim of the present work is to first quantize the classical Hamiltonian and to then diagonalize it using different variants of flow equations, a method of continuous unitary transformations introduced by Wegner in 1994 [Ann. Physik (Leipzig) 3 (1994) 77]. The results of the diagonalization via flow equations are comparable to those obtained by the classical transformation. In the case of commensurate frequencies the transformation turns out to be less lengthy. In addition, the dynamics of the quantum mechanical system are analyzed on the basis of the transformed observables. c ©1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Hénon–heiles Hamiltonian for Coupled Upper–hybrid and Magnetoacoustic Waves in Magnetized Plasmas
We show that the coupled mode equations for the stationary propagation of upper–hybrid and magnetoacoustic waves in magnetized electron–ion plasmas with negative group dispersion can be exactly derived from the generalized Hénon–Heiles Hamiltonian. The parameter regimes for the integrable cases of the coupled mode equations have been explicitly obtained. For positive group dispersion of the upp...
متن کاملIntegration of a generalized Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian
The generalized Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian H = 1/2(P 2 X + P 2 Y + c1X 2 + c2Y 2) + aXY 2 − bX3/3 with an additional nonpolynomial term μY −2 is known to be Liouville integrable for three sets of values of (b/a, c1, c2). It has been previously integrated by genus two theta functions only in one of these cases. Defining the separating variables of the Hamilton-Jacobi equations, we succeed here, in...
متن کاملFinsler Geometric Local Indicator of Chaos for Single Orbits in the Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian
Translating the dynamics of the Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian as a geodesic flow on a Finsler manifold, we obtain a local and synthetic geometric indicator of chaos (GIC), which represents a link between local quantities and asymptotic behavior of orbits and gives a strikingly evident, oneto-one, correspondence between geometry and instability. Going beyond the results attained using the customary d...
متن کاملNon-autonomous Hénon-Heiles Systems
Scaling similarity solutions of three integrable PDEs, namely the Sawada-Kotera, fifth order KdV and Kaup-Kupershmidt equations, are considered. It is shown that the resulting ODEs may be written as non-autonomous Hamiltonian equations, which are time-dependent generalizations of the well-known integrable Hénon-Heiles systems. The (time-dependent) Hamiltonians are given by logarithmic derivativ...
متن کاملChaos in a modified Hénon-Heiles system describing geodesics in gravitational waves
A Hamiltonian system with a modified Hénon-Heiles potential is investigated. This describes the motion of free test particles in vacuum gravitational pp-wave spacetimes with both quadratic (‘homogeneous’) and cubic (‘non-homogeneous’) terms in the structural function. It is shown that, for energies above a certain value, the motion is chaotic in the sense that the boundaries separating the basi...
